HIROKI KIKUTA
Hiroki Kikuta – Composer of Secret of Mana & Sound Designer of the SNES Era
Hiroki Kikuta-san is a renowned Japanese composer and sound designer, best known for his influential work with Square during the 1990s. His lush, atmospheric soundtracks for Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) and Trials of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 3) helped define an era of emotionally driven video game music.
Kikuta-san’s compositions are celebrated for their melodic richness, folk-inspired motifs, and ethereal textures — blending traditional instrumentation with experimental structures that continue to influence composers today.
Unlike many of his peers, Kikuta-san composed directly for the Super Famicom hardware, carefully sculpting each sound to make full use of the console’s limitations. This deep integration between music and game world resulted in soundtracks that feel inseparable from the emotional arcs and environments they support.
His work remains a cornerstone of orchestral game concerts, tribute albums, and remix projects across the globe. Despite his legendary status, Kikuta-san rarely appears at public events, making his convention and concert appearances highly anticipated and cherished by fans of classic JRPGs and retro soundtracks.
Now available for fan conventions, composer panels, meet & greets, and symphonic game music events, Hiroki Kikuta-san brings decades of musical insight and creative history to audiences worldwide.
